Sea Lions seek to sustain UCBL run vs Pirates
Games today 12 noon – U of Batangas vs TIP 2 p.m. – Olivarez vs Lyceum-Batangas
Olivarez College hopes to extend its win run to three while Technological Institute of the Philippines seeks to check its skid as they take on separate rivals today in the second round of the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season at the Olivarez College gym in Sucat, Parañaque.
The Olivarez Sea Lions clash with the Lyceum-Batangas Pirates at 2 p.m. with the former looking to improve their 4-3 record while the TIP Engineers square off with the University of Batangas Brahmans at 12 noon.
Though coming off a 15-point win over the Engineers last Thursday, the Sea Lions aren’t taking the Pirates for granted with the latter also fresh from a 114-106 overtime victory over the Bulacan State University Gold Gears last Saturday.
“We have shown that we can hold our ground against the better teams as long as we put in an extra effort,” said LyceumBatangas coach Dan Acero.
The first round elims ended with a three-way tie for the lead involving Diliman College, Colegio de San Lorenzo and defending champion Centro Escolar University at 6-1.
TIP is out to snap a two-game skid and break its tie with Lyceum-Batangas at fifth and avenge a sorry 77-79 loss to University of Batangas in their initial meeting last Sept. 30.
“We’ve been a big disappointment so far and I hope my players will finally play true to their potential,” said TIP coach Potit de Vera.
