MPiC unit to sign contract for CAlAX construction
Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) unit MPCALA Holdings Inc. is set to sign the contract for the construction of the Cavite segment of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) next month.
MPCALA Holdings president and chief executive officer Luigi Bautista told reporters the firm has completed negotiations with Leighton Contractors Asia Ltd. for the contract to build the 27-kilometer (km) Cavite section of the CALAX.
“We plan to do contract signing in November and then, they will do preparatory works,” he said.
He said the contract with Leighton would be worth around the same as the one entered into by MPCALA Holdings with D.M. Consunji Inc. (DMCI) for the construction of the 18-km Laguna segment of the CALAX.
MPCALA Holdings and DMCI signed the P7.2 billion contract for the Laguna segment in March.
After the contract signing with Leighton and preparatory works, Bautista said the contractor is expected to mobilize for construction of the Cavite segment by January next year.
The CALAX is a four-lane 45-km expressway linking Manila-Cavite Toll Expressway (CAVITEX) and South Luzon Expressway (SLEX).
It will start from CAVITEX in Kawit, Cavite and end at the SLEX-Mamplasan interchange in Biñan, Laguna.
The project will have eight interchanges in locations such as Kawit, Open Canal, Governor’s Drive, Aguinaldo Highway, Silang East, Sta.Rosa-Tagaytay Road, Laguna Blvd. and Technopark.
