Blue dragons, scorpions seek to stay at UCBL helm

-

Diliman College hopes to sustain its impressive run while Centro Escolar University tries to recover lost ground as they go up against separate rivals today in the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) Season 2 at the Olivarez College gym in Sucat, Parañaque.

The Diliman Blue Dragons collide with the Bulacan State University Gold Gears at 12 noon with the former out to follow up their big 59-56 reversal over the CEU Scorpions last Saturday for a share of the lead with the defending champions and the Colegio de San Lorenzo side at 6-1.

CEU, on the other hand, is heavily favored to repeat over University of Batangas at 2 p.m.

“My players are on the groove right now and it’s just a matter of sustaining it,” said Diliman coach Rensy Bajar, who will pin his hopes again on Senegalese center Adama Diakhite and locals John Bauzon, Joseph Brutas and Rickson Gerero.

Diakhite emerged triumphant in his much-awaited showdown with CEU’s Rod Ebondo.

That will be a big concern for the UB Brahmans as they expect Ebondo and company to get on the winning track in a big way.

“If we want to duplicate what we achieved last year, our locals should provide Rod the needed support on both ends. Our import can only do so much especially when we’re up against the top teams,” said CEU coach Yong Garcia.
