Red Cross to host volunteer run

- Non Alquitran

To raise fund for its humanitarian causes, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) will host its fourth nationwide Million Volunteer Run at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila on Oct. 21.

“Through the years, the Philippine Red Cross has always been at the forefront of disasters and emergencies, giving aid and life-saving assistance to the most vulnerable. By joining the Million Volunteer Run 4, you can help the Red Cross help more people to be more prepared to respond to disasters and calamities,” said PRC chairman and Sen. Richard Gordon.

“This is a run for humanity. We call it a humanitarian run for everyone,” Gordon added.

The MVR4 aims to gather volunteers, staff and partners all over the country to run to help raise funds not only for the organization’s humanitarian causes, but also to help strengthen the PRC’s emergency and disaster response through the purchase of additional fleet of rescue vehicles and equipment.

To date, there will be more than 50 PRC chapters that will participate in the simultaneous nationwide run.

For those who are interested to join the run, there are four ways to choose from: you may register directly to the PRC national headquarters, Mandaluyong City; PRC Metro Manila chapters (Caloocan City, Las Piñas City, Manila, Malabon City, Marikina City, Pasay City, Quezon City, Rizal, and Valenzuela); you may go directly to www.mvr.redcross. org.ph; and Chris Sports Outlets at SM Manila, SM Sucat, SM North EDSA Annex, and Market Market Taguig (until Oct. 19, 7 p.m.).

There are also two registration rates for the run: Php 500 for 3K/5K, inclusive of an MVR singlet, PRC bronze membership, race bib, and runner’s card; and P350 for 3K/5K, inclusive of an MVR singlet, race bib, and runner’s card.

Registration for the run is open until Oct. 19. There will be no walk-in registration during the event. Aspiring runners are therefore advised to register a week before the run itself to secure their kits.

For Metro Manila runners, the assembly time for the main run site (Quirino Grandstand) will be at 4 a.m. to be followed by a warm-up exercise until the race officially begins on gun start at 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. for 5K and 3K runners, respectively.
