Former two-time champion Armed Forces of the Philippines and Senate routed their respective rivals to force a three-way-tie for lead in Group A of the sixth UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center last weekend.

Alvin Zuniga fired 28 points while three other teammates also tallied in double figures as the AFP Cavaliers blasted the COA Enablers, 127-103, to tie defending champion Philippine National Police and Senate for the early lead.

The Senate Defenders, on the other hand, rode on a big third quarter run behind former PBA player Jeff Sanders as they trounced the GSIS Furies, 91-81.

The Defenders exploded for 28 points while holding the Furies to just 11 points in the third period as they broke away from a tight 42-41 game for an 18-point cushion (70-52) going into the last 10 minutes of play.

The German Ambassador’s Cup (GAC) 2017 gets going tomorrow with entrepreneurs for the German-Philippine trade and industry, leaders from the Philippine government and members of the diplomatic corps expected to see action at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club.

The German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI) and the German Embassy Manila are spearheading the 15th staging of the 18-hole invitational charity golf tournament.

By joining the GAC, sponsors and individual players are supporting the Palawan-based Katala Foundation in its efforts to protect the critically endangered Philippine cockatoo.

Since 1998, Katala Foundation implements the Philippine Cockatoo Conservation Program together with local communities. Forest destruction and wildlife poaching brought the Philippine cockatoo to the brink of extinction.

Through its conservation program, Katala Foundation helps communities understand the need to protect the forest and the birds’ nesting sites, and trains community members to rescue hurt or captured cockatoos.

The foundation specifically engages former wildlife poachers to become guardians of the Philippine cockatoo.

The tournament will be followed by an evening reception at the Ambassador’s Residence in Makati City. The reception serves an opportunity to meet with representatives from the Embassy and GPCCI, as well as Philippine decision-makers.
