300 held in Taguig for violating local ordinances

More than 300 persons were arrested during a police operation in Barangays Ususan and Pinagsama Taguig City from Friday night until yesterday morning.

Superinten­dent Jenny Tecson, Southern Police District spokespers­on, said 132 police officers took part in the operation, which resulted in the arrest of 33 persons for drinking in public, eight for being half-naked and one for smoking in public.

The others who were arrested violated various city ordinances while 59 minors were “rescued” after being caught on the street in the wee hours of the night, she said.

Police also apprehende­d 224 persons for traffic violations and impounded 32 unregister­ed motorcycle­s, Tecson said.

She said the arrested persons were temporaril­y detained at the Taguig police station.

4 boys nabbed for jeepney heist

Four teenage boys were arrested for allegedly robbing three jeepney passengers of P36,000 worth of gadgets in Quezon City on Friday.

The suspects, aged between 15 and 17, allegedly pulled out bladed weapons and robbed Margaret Frances Nones, 19; Kim Angelica Guzman, 20, and Mark Anthony Mendoza, 19, as the passenger jeepney was traversing North Avenue at around 8:20 p.m., said Chief Superinten­dent Guillermo Eleazar, Quezon City Police District director.

The victims sought the help of police officers patrolling the area. The lawmen arrested the boys after a brief chase, but three mobile phones taken from the victims were already missing.
