How moms can stay stylish
When a woman becomes a mother, does she lose herself or does she find herself? Margaux Alampay and Patricia Gonzalez, two young moms behind Pearl Clothing brand, believe it is the latter.
“When I had my first child, I admit that for the first few months of his life, I felt a little lost,” confides co-founder and designer Margaux. “My body went through so many changes, and I didn’t feel like my old self anymore. Looking back, I realized that it was because I couldn’t dress the way I used to, and ‘nursing access’ became my priority over style. As a stylist by profession, it was nearly impossible for me to find nursing wear that expressed my style.”
Pearl strives to be a clothing brand that celebrates the beauty of becoming a mother. Its designs are inspired by the evolution a woman experiences — as a woman who is pregnant and carrying her child; a woman who is breastfeeding and nourishing her child; and a woman who is chasing children, always on her feet and juggling her numerous roles as a modern woman.
Few would disagree that fashion largely affects a woman’s confidence. And with the many changes the body goes through during pregnancy and postpartum, it is certainly a challenge for young moms to feel stylish and pretty. Although pregnancy and breastfeeding are one of the most beautiful stages of motherhood, this is also when women can feel the most unattractive or insecure.
“Many believe that when women become mothers, life slows down or ends. I feel the opposite — I’ve never felt more feminine, more inspired, more empowered. We want our clothes to reflect that,” smiles co-founder Patricia, who leads Pearl’s marketing.
Margaux adds, “Motherhood has definitely awakened a side of me I never knew was there. It is definitely one of my life’s biggest blessings!”
The young moms behind Pearl Clothing aspire to provide women with clothing options they can wear through the different stages of womanhood and motherhood. Clothes that are chic and current, but also enable young moms to nurture their children with ease.
