DFA: 10-year passport to cost the same

- By PIA LEE-BRAGO

No changes will be made on the current Philippine passport, including the current price, except for the 10-year validity, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said yesterday.

The DFA issued yesterday Department Order No. 0102017 or the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 10928 (2017), otherwise known as “An Act Extending the Validity of Philippine Passports,” which was enacted last Aug. 2.

It will take effect on Jan. 1, 2018 to allow sufficient notification worldwide.

Under the IRR, no changes will be made on the current passport except for the 10year validity period, for those issued to Filipinos 18 years or older. Filipinos under 18 years will still be issued passports valid for five years.

The DFA said the 10-year passport will cost P950, which is the current price of a fiveyear passport.

“However, in accordance with the DFA’s mandate to improve the passport processing system to make it seamless, convenient and pro-people, and to ensure that the production and security of passports are at par with technological advances and world standards, additional fees may be imposed in the future for passports that will have enhanced features,” the DFA said.

The DFA said it held extensive consultations with Congress and other stakeholders before the IRR was issued.
