NGAP regional gets going at Beverly Place

The 2017 NGAP Northern Luzon Regional Golf Championsh­ip unwraps today with a spirited battle for top honors looming in both the men’s and women’s sides at the Beverly Place Golf Club in Mexico, Pampanga.

Paolo Wong shoots for a follow-up to his emphatic victory in the Canlubang Amateur Open recently as he banners the field in the men’s Elite side at the flat but bunker-laden layout, which requires precision off the tee and solid putting.

But Wong will have a list of formidable foes to contend with in the 54-hole tournament sponsored by the MVP Sports Foundation with Aidric Chan and Carl Corpus along with Don Petil, Rich Albano and Luis Castro all raring to showcase their wares.

Also listed in the premier division of the event organized and conducted by the National Golf Associatio­n of the Philippine­s and serving as part of the PLDT Group National Amateur Golf Tour are Perry Bucay, Korean Hwang Sa Gyang, Loyd Labrador, Raymond Mondejar, Masaichi Otake, Pyo Seung Hwan, Adrian Romero, Wiggam Tapdasan, Pierre Ticzon, Lanz Uy and Paolo Uy.

Harmie Constantin­o, meanwhile, looms as the player to beat in the women’s division with the national team mainstay bracing for a fierce duel with the likes of Missy Legaspi, Kristine Torralba, Isabela Miravite, Kayla Nocum, Yang Ju Young, Sunshine Zhang and Koreans Kim Seo Yun and Shin Seo Yun.

Also on tap are the men’s Divisions I and II and the ladies handicap Open category with August Cruz seeking back-to-back in Division I (handicap 5-12) that also drew the participat­ion of Alan Alegre, Bernard Chang Jr., Jonathan Cruz, Leo Cumlat, Francis Lanuza, Efren Leonardo and Francis Telan.
