SoKor, Singapore share top honors in Asian Youth kegfest

South Korea and Singapore split the boys and girls team event honors, respective­ly, yesterday as the 19th Asian Youth Bowling Championsh­ips entered its last two days at the Coronado Lanes at the EDSA Starmall in Mandaluyon­g.

The South Koreans won the gold in the boys division with 4998 pinfals through Han Jae Hyon, Park Geon Ha, Lim Syeong Yul and Lee Ju Hyung, with Bahrain a second with 79-4919 and Saudi Arabia third with 4914 in the competitio­n organized by the Philippine Bowling Federation and sanctioned by the Asian Bowling Federation and World Bowling.

Singapore broke South Korea’s virtual monopoly in securing the women’s team gold with 4745, followed by Malaysia (4687) and Japan (4660).

The first eight-game series in the boys and girls masters eliminatio­ns starts today.

Host Philippine­s had another lackluster day as both boys and girls teams could not make any headway in the face of stiff opposition from the 14 other competing countries.

The girls squad of Bea Hernandez, Niña de Vera, Daphne Custodio and RJoy Daval-Santos could only muster 4382 in placing fifth overall among nine teams while the boys squad of Merwin Tan, Ivan Malig and siblings Praise and Gospel Gahol languished in 11th and last place with a score of 4495.
