Lorna’s secret to dewy skin

- By MARIDOL RAÑOA-BISMARK

Fresh, translucent skin is important to stars like Lorna Tolentino. They need it to look smashing on TV or film. They need it to live up to fans’ expectations about how they should look, no matter how worn-out or anxious they happen to be.

That’s why Lorna takes great pains in making sure her skin maintains that dewy look fans want to stare at again and again.

When she admits she’s 55 and a proud grandma to five-year-old Tori, Lorna usually elicits a surprised gasp.

Besides positive thinking, a healthy diet and regular exercise, Lorna has tried collagen — the building blocks of skin — along with her meals.

And it’s not just any kind of collagen that promises clear skin and good looks. The Watsons Generics endorser patronizes the brand she and Edu Manzano endorse.

“Lorna is very vocal about her being a happy user of collagen by Watsons. She takes it as part of her meals. You see, Watsons generic collagen is a supplement and can also be ready to drink,” says Watsons Group marketing manager Karen Fabres.

The young executive knows how it is to suffer from bad skin. As a child, she remembers frequenting the dermatologist’s clinic because she felt frustrated about how her skin looked.

And then she heard about collagen. She learned about how important it is in warding off a variety of skin problems — acne and oily skin for the young; fine lines and dark spots for more senior people.

After all, collagen is protein that gives strength and structure to the body. The lesser the amount, the less supple the skin becomes.

Sadly, collagen is one of the substances that decrease in our body as we age. The amount of collagen in our body drops significantly by the time we hit 60.

“We produce a lot of natural collagen as babies. That’s why the skin of a baby’s cheek bounces back if you press it. This is also why the skin on our

lola’s cheeks doesn’t bounce back when you press it,” adds Karen’s colleague Jared de Guzman.

Healthy skin is a given when you’re young. And even then, you have to protect it from its enemies — acne, oiliness and others.

As the years go by, healthy skin is something you work on, and give yourself, because it makes you feel and look good.

Lorna and others who take care of their skin know this oh so well. Now, if only people can take a cue from her.
