Former PBA players Chester Tolomia and Don Camaso imposed their will as they led Judiciary to a 95-88 victory over Department of Justice in the sixth UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center over the weekend.
The 6-foot-2 Tolomia shot a game-high 34 points while Camaso used his height advantage to score 30 points for Judiciary, which improved to 2-1 in Group B.
Guard Warren Ybanez, another former PBA cager, contributed eight points and came up with huge plays down the stretch as the Magi stayed within striking distance of Malacañang (3-0) and National Housing Authority (3-1) in the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon for the country’s public servants.
Led by ex-pros Rob Wainwright and Gilbert Malabanan, the BFP Firefighters trounced the Department of Health cagers, 89-68, in the lone Group A match.
The Firefighters took an early 27-13 lead then padded it to 19 (57-38) at halftime.
Wainwright topscored for the Firefighters with 20 points while Malabanan, who played briefly for Ginebra, chipped in 18 points in the event offering P 4 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.
Meantime, NHA dumped Ombudsman, 101-80.
