Best, brightest dish out fierce forms in the PVL All-Star

Playing in an exhibition game, Team Red and White squad still dished out their best for the fans with the former scoring a 25-21, 25-22, 13-25, 25-21 victory in the Premier Volleyball League All-Star Sunday night at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

BaliPure’s Aiko Urdas and Tots Carlos of UP gave Team Red a huge lift midway in the fourth set, breaking off a 14-all count as the Roger Gorayeb-mentored squad snared the victory over the Rico de Guzman-coached White team.

Gorayeb thus put one over Pocari Sweat mentor De Guzman again after the former and his BaliPure crew defeated the latter and the Lady Warriors to claim the Open Conference crown last August.

Open Conference Finals MVP Grethcel Soltones of Team Red unleashed her competitive form in the match, put up by Sports Vision and ABS-CBN S+A Channel to raise funds for the Hero Foundation, a non-stock, non-profit organization which provides educational stipends to military orphans.

“Of course, I played competitively because we need to give the fans a good game. But we do not think about that (repeating over coach Rico). We were just enjoying. This is for the fans and I hope we were able to help them,” said Soltones of the Water Defenders, who had five points in the victory.

“It’s a big thing for us to help other people especially the kids because they are the ones who hold our future. We are giving back whatever we have received,” added Soltones.

Gorayeb agreed with his prized ward.

“We are happy because first of all, this was done for the fans and for the Hero Foundation. Being able to help and give happiness to others is our way of giving back to them for all their support for the past three conferences.
