Floods hit Cagayan, Isabela, Ilocos Norte

TUGUEGARAO — Continuous heavy downpour spawned by the northeast monsoon swelled rivers and submerged several areas in Cagayan, Ilocos Norte and Isabela yesterday.

Earlier, disaster management officials issued landslide and flood warnings in Cagayan and Isabela.

The Baset Bridge, which connects Poblacion 1 and Poblacion 2 in Adams town, was impassable due to flood, according to Chief Inspector Dexter Corpuz, spokesman for the Ilocos Norte police.

In Ilagan City, Isabela, waCAMP ter from the Cagayan and Pinacanaua­n rivers submerged five barangays and three bridges, city police chief Superinten­dent Ariel Quilang said.

Residents in low-lying areas in the towns of Gamu, San Mariano, Tumauini, Delfin Albano, San Pablo, Santo Tomas, Cabagan and Sta. Maria were advised to prepare for possible evacuation.

Overflow bridges like the Alicacao in Cauayan City and Gucab in Echague town were impassable to motorists.

In Cagayan, floodwater­s submerged the Tawi and Cavasan bridges in Peñablanca town, according to Chief Inspector Joe Gannaban, town police chief.

Authoritie­s closed the Abusag Bridge in Barangay San Jose as well as the Baggao and Capatan bridges in Tuguegarao, where two villages — Capatan and Poblacion — were submerged.
