PLDT gets ISO nod
PLDT Inc. has obtained ISO certification for three cable landing stations, a recognition indicating that the telco and digital services provider has facilities to manage the effect of disasters to continue to deliver services to subscribers.
In a statement, PLDT said it was awarded by international certification body TÜV Rheinland with ISO 22301:2012, the highest and most comprehensive international standard for management systems for ensuring business continuity for cable landing stations in Bauang in La Union, Daet in Camarines Norte and Nasugbu in Batangas.
“This ISO certification states that PLDT is well-prepared and equipped to manage the impact of disasters that may affect our cable landing stations which are mission critical facilities in delivering quality voice and data services to our customers,” PLDT chief corporate services officer Ray Espinosa said.
TÜV Rheinland Philippines managing director Tristan Arwen Loveres said the certification shows PLDT conforms to practices to prevent, mitigate, respond and recover from disruptive incidents.
“As a missioncritical enterprise, PLDT continues to raise the bar of excellence and reliability as we assessed and certified their compliance with this worldclass standard ISO 22301,” he said.
The cable landing stations allow PLDT to provide international connectivity for data, voice and leased line services via fiber optic cables to its global network partners.
PLDT’s cable landing station in La Union is part of the 20,000-kilometer (km) undersea AsiaAmerica Gateway.
The Daet cable landing station, meanwhile, is part of the Asia Submarine Cable Express which provides connection to Shinmaruyma, Japan, East Coast, Singapore and Tseung Kwan O, Hong Kong.
The Batangas cable landing station serves as home to the South East Asia Middle East Western Europe 3 and Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 submarine cable systems linking the Philippines to countries in the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Western Europe.
