‘Addie for Children’ at SM Art Center
Opening at the SM Art Center on Nov. 9 is Addie Cukingnan’s solo exhibition titled “Addie for Children,” presented by Paseo Gallery. The show is for the benefit of World Vision, the largest Christian humanitarian relief, development, and advocacy organization in the world.
For this special exhibition, Cukingnan has arrayed various canvases distinguished by her favored subjects: floral themes such as lilacs and lilies, peonies and hydrangeas, lush tropical vegetation, Oriental jars, vases, pottery, and children. Of her works, the late art critic Gino Dormiendo has written, “Her flower paintings have a formal quality that rises from the merely botanical, revealing her feeling for color and composition. For all their seething religious ardor, these works truly ennoble the spirit and exalt the soul.”
The artworks were created in Cukingnan’s Tanay, Rizal resthousestudio, where she has invited noted Tanay-resident artist Jun Tiongco to participate with her in several “Interaction” paintings, together with Arte Pintura artists Azor Pazcoguin, Flor Baradi, Jeanette Kamphuis, Rey Ademis and Rey Aurelio. “Addie for Children” runs until Nov. 21. The SM Megamall Art Center is at the 4/L, The Artwalk, SM Megamall A, Mandaluyong City. For inquiries, call Paseo Gallery at 7065514 or email paseogallery@yahoo.com/paseogallery@gmail.com.
