Senate stuns PNP; Malacañang stays unbeaten

Senate clamped down on reigning titlist Philippine National Police late in the fourth and came through with a 68-56 victory even as Malacanang Philippine Sports Commission rolled to its fourth straight win in the sixth UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center last Sunday.

With Jeff Sanders, Marlon Legaspi and Harley Ng anchoring the team’s defense, the Senate Defenders held the PNP Responders to just nine points while exploding for 17 points to post the victory.

Sanders, who played briefly in the PBA, scored 22 points on top of seven rebounds in leading Senate to its third win in four games in Group A of the tournament organized by UNTV president and CEO Daniel Razon for the country’s public welfare.

Backing him up were Legaspi and Ng who tallied 10 points each aside from combining for 12 rebounds.

They also held Olan Omiping to just nine points.

Meanwhile, Malacañang-PSC and GSIS also blasted their respective rivals in the event offering P4 million to the chosen charity of the champion team.

Former UST star Christian Luanzon scored 17 points as the Malacañang-PSC Kamao demolished the Department of Agricultur­e Food Masters, 91-78, for their fourth straight win in Group B while the GSIS Furies clobbered the COA Enablers, 105-83.
