GET READY FORA LUSH,NAKED CHRISTMAS

- By TANYA T. LARA

You know there’s a Lush store nearby when you start smelling those delicious Ballistic bath bombs that make you want to go looking for a bathtub to soak for an hour.

At the recent launching of Lush’s Christmas collection, guests made their own Ballistic bombs from a table of raw materials and learned to wrap gifts in reusable scarves.

A beauty and bath cult favorite, Lush is offering soaps, EDTs, perfumes, and colorful and reusable Knot Wraps for the holidays.

Lush is going Naked this winter, going back to its roots of minimal packaging approach, and this holiday season they’re offering 80 percent of the seasonal range completely “Naked.”

Solid (or Naked) products like soap, bath bombs and massage bars need very little to protect or contain them, which means Lush dispenses with fancy packaging.

The Lush Christmas range offers a Naked alternative for every packaged product. Both contain the same mix of innovation and ingredients but with 80 percent of the range being Naked, it’s a little better for the planet too.

Solid or Naked products like body butters, are formulated with little to no water and are therefore often innately self-preserving. By replacing the water content with ingredients that remain solid at room temperature, like Fair Trade cocoa butter, bacteria growth is inhibited and stays that way.

Lush says that from May 2014 to June 2015, using naked body butters saved 1,572 kg. of packaging from being thrown into landfill. Between January 2015 and January 2016, global sales of Lush shampoo bars meant that 15,890,925 plastic bottles were never created.

Lush packages these into black pots that can be returned to the stores; the black pots are then cleaned thoroughly and shredded at the Lush Green Hub in Dorset, before being made into pellets, heated and remoulded back into black pots.
