ZAMBOANGA CITY – Two militiamen were killed in an ambush staged by suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits in Tuburan, Basilan on Friday.

Hakim Asmawil and John Antang of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit Active Auxiliary were on their way to attend a congregation prayer when they were waylaid in Barangay Libug before 3 p.m.

The bandits are reportedly with the group of sub-leader Ajan Apino.

It was the second attack on government troops by Abu Sayyaf bandits in Basilan in the past several days. The bandits reportedly beheaded two militiamen on Friday last week.
