SC Mardison launches new series of textbooks

SC Mardison Corp., a printing, publishing, importing and bookselling company in the Philippines, launched five new series of textbooks at the Bulong Pulungan media forum at Hotel Sofitel on Oct. 24.

The new textbooks are in line with the Department of Education’s K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum. Enacted into law in 2013, the K to 12 program provides enough time for students to master concepts and skills to prepare them for tertiary education, as well as enable them to qualify for employment or entrepreneurship.

SC Mardison’s new textbooks are: Araling Panlipunan sa Bagong Panahon, for Araling Panlipunan or Social Studies for elementary school. The books aim to hone every child to be responsible, humane, productive, aware of global issues, value history and culture,

and actively participate in nation building and development.

Get Engaged in English, a series specially designed for pupils in Grades 1-6. These books aim to develop the learner’s thinking skills through interactive learning, enhance their communicative competence and critical literacy, and nurture a sense of meaning in the use of the language in every day experience. They not only teach but also entertain the readers.

Spark Science, the series adopts the inquiry based learning process. This puts the students at the center of the content and skill development through exploring and investigating. It starts by posing questions, problems or situations. The teachers then facilitate and assess the development of the students’ conceptual understanding.

Filipino sa Bagong Panahon, is a series for Grades 1-6 pupils. The textbook in each grade level has integrated lessons in Reading and Language phases. Lessons in different units revolve around themes that are reflectively conceived to suit the interest and experience of the learners.

Get Engage in MAPEH, is a series for Music, Art, Physical Education and Health (MAPEH) from Grades 1 to 6. Music and the Arts are curricula that focus on the learners’ acquisition of knowledge, skills and values necessary for artistic expression and culture literacy.

Physical education curriculum focuses on the teaching of values, knowledge and skills in physical activity participation; hence the books also provide performance-based lessons. An important consideration is the development of competence in movement and motor skills with clear understanding of various movement concepts and strategies that learners can apply to life experiences.

Health is focused on the physical, mental, emotional, as well as, the social, moral and spiritual dimensions of holistic health. Text materials and activities in health lessons are carefully selected and arranged in each book to provide acquisition of essential knowledge, attitudes and skills necessary to promote good health.

SC Mardison started out in commercial and large-scale printing and publishing for both private and government institutions nationwide. SC stands for Simon Crisostomo, founder of the company, while Mardison is acronym for the name of his wife, Ma. Ditas who now serves as chairman and CEO, and the Crisostomo children: Paolo, Antonino and Ulysses Crisostomo.
