Pasig cops use body cameras
Police officers in Pasig City will use body cameras when taking part in anti-crime operations, an official said yesterday.
The use of body cameras would make all operations of the Pasig police transparent and help curb allegations of extrajudicial killings, extortion and other wrongdoing, said Director Oscar Albayalde, head of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO).
He said the body cameras are equipped with a memory card that would record police operations for the prosecution of cases against arrested suspects.
The Pasig police officers would wear the cameras while manning checkpoints or implementing Oplans Sita and Tokhang.
Albayalde; Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, director of the Eastern Police District (EPD) and city police chief Senior Superintendent Orlando Yebra Jr. launched the use of body cameras yesterday at the corner of Shaw Boulevard and Oranbo street.
During the event, Juan Lorenzo Natividad of Bartpack Car Parts explained the use of the body cameras to the police officers.
Sapitula lauded Mayor Bobby Eusebio for donating 48 body cameras for use of the special reaction units of 10 precincts and operating units.
Albayalde urged other local government units in Metro Manila to follow Eusebio’s example and purchase body cameras for their police officers as it would greatly help improve the image of the Philippine National Police.
