Palawan mayor gets DILG good governance award
The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has awarded the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) to Puerto Princesa City Mayor Lucilo Bayron and his administration for “demonstrating superior performance” in public service.
The award was the second in two straight years given to Puerto Princesa City.
Bayron, together with 20 other local chief executives, were top awardees from among 448 local leaders in the 2017 SGLG contest.
Of the more than 1,725 local government units in the country, the winners, including Bayron and his administration, passed criteria which covered financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, and peace and order condition in a province.
Bayron, in an interview, said his administration also passed the parameters in the promotion of business friendliness/competitiveness, environment management, tourism, and culture and the arts.
“In winning the coveted SGLG award, the City of Puerto Princesa can now have best opportunities and accomplishments that will be created from its financial reward, in the form of performance fund entitlement and public trust that will be built as inspired by the Good Financial Housekeeping Certification,” Byron said.
DILG officer-in-charge Catalino Cuy said winners and passers are conferred yearly with a SGLG marker to be placed in their provincial, city, and municipal halls and a performance challenge fund (PCF), an incentive in millions of pesos to be used for local development projects.
Bayron thanked city officials and employees for their good performance and encouraged them to work harder for the betterment of life of the residents.
