Luisita hikes lead to 11 pts in Fil-Am golf

BAGUIO CITY – Luisita Golf & Country Club leaned on its veteran players to increase its lead to 11 points over Manila Southwoods with a round left in the Fil Championsh­ip flight of the 68th Department of Tourism Fil-Am Invitation­al Golf Tournament yesterday.

Eddie Bagtas scored 38 points to tow Luisita to 131 total and 366 aggregate for an 11-point advantage over Manila Southwoods in the premiere flight of the San Miguel-presented event.

Luisita is at the cusp of winning the tournament it last played in 1994 and is seeking a double victory with its Am squad retaining a five-point lead over Camp John Hay.

Former pro Raul Miñoza led Southwoods assembled a tournament-high 39 points as Southwoods came up with 121 for 355.

Rodel Mangalubna­n backed up Bagtas with 34 points while Chito Laureta submitted a 30, while Jingy Tuazon had 29 to count for the team which saw Ondoy Mondilla out of tally sheet with 27.

Southwoods got 28 from Bong Sison and 27 apiece from Sang Jin Lee and Judd for the team’s 121 output and 355 total. Kui Sun Moon didn’t count with 24.

Rolly Viray had an even par for 36 points as Megafiber drew 123 points for 330 and third overall.

Jose Mari Hechanova added 31 and Bing Bunye had 30 while Rene Unson made 26 points. Albert Garcia did not count with 22.

“It’s still anybody’s game,” said Bagtas, who rode a golf cart due to a hurting foot.
