CKSC, National U make PSSBC semis

Chiang Kai Shek College and National University trampled their respective rivals in emphatic fashions to advance to the semifinals in the sixth PSSBC Dickies Underwear Cup at the SGS Stadium in Araneta Ave., QC last Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons, who finished second behind the NU Bullpups in the preliminar­y round, stunned reigning NCAA titlist La SalleGreen­hills, 77-53, while the Bullpups outclassed the San Sebastian Staglets, 104-72.

Terrence Fortea and Winderlich Coyoca combined for 36 points to lead the Bullpups past the Staglets.

“We know how potent our team can be when everyone gives their contributi­on on both ends,” said NU coach Goldwyn Monteverde.

Jason Celis came off the bench to fire a team-high 20 points while John Galinato added 19 markers, spiked by three triples, to help eliminate the favored team in the event also sponsored by Hapee Toothpaste, Blackwater, Freego Jeans, Poly Gloss/Rain or Shine, Che Lu Bar & Grill’s and MEC Computers with Rudy Yu of Dickies Underwear as league chairman.

Meanwhile, current CESAFI titleholde­r University of Visayas toppled defending UAAP champion Far Eastern University-Diliman, 75-74, while San Beda pulled off a come-from-behind 78-75 win over Mapua.

Jancork Cabahug finished with 14 points and eight rebounds while Joshua Yerro added 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Baby Lancers, who showed poise down the stretch to hold off the Baby Tamaraws.

The victory set up UV against CKSC, the 2015 champion, in one of two knockout semifinal battles.
