Star Wars: The Last Jedi grosses P145.2M in 5 days
The Philippines is one with The Force as Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi grossed a staggering P145.2M in its first five days of release, opening at No. 1 for the Dec. 13 to 17 frame.
Receiving some of the most glowing reviews in years, the Rian Johnsondirected tentpole was lauded by local critics and fans alike, with some even saying it’s the best Star Wars movie yet.
The biggest box-office grosses were reported by SM Megamall (P7.1M), SM Mall of Asia (P6.5M) and SM North EDSA (P5.6M).
Trinoma leads the rest of the Top 10 with P4.9M, followed by Greenbelt 3 (P4.5M), Glorietta 4 (P4.3M), Power Plant (P4.1M), Bonifacio High Street (P3.59M), Greenhills Promenade (P3.55M) and SM Aura (P3.3M).
The Force is also strong with the Top 20 cinemas, led by Alabang Town Center (P3.2M), Shang Cineplex (P3.1M), U.P. Town Center (P3M), SM Cebu (P2.6M), Uptown Place (P2.5M), SM Southmall (P2.3M), Ayala Mall Cebu (P2.26M), The 30th Mall (P2.24M), Robinsons Magnolia (P2.1M) and Robinsons Galleria (P2M).
In the US, Star Wars: The Last Jedi opened with a stellar $220M weekend — the second-highest opening weekend of all time.
With international grosses hitting $230M, Star Wars: The Last Jedi totaled $450M worldwide.
In Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, the Skywalker saga continues as the heroes of The Force Awakens join the galactic legends in an epic adventure that unlocks age-old mysteries of the Force and shocking revelations of the past.
The film stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is also written by Johnson and produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman. J.J. Abrams, Tom Karnowski and Jason McGatlin are the executive producers.
