University of Santo Tomas took the lead in the race for the UAAP Season 80 general championship after the initial burst of action this year.

The Tigers and Tigresses leaned on their title runs in women’s beach volleyball, taekwondo, poomsae and women’s judo as well as their cochampionship in men’s judo with Ateneo to post a leading 151.5 points through 15 events.

The España-based bets also gained from runner-up finishes in men’s beach volleyball, men’s and women’s table tennis to boost their drive for back-toback general championships and 42nd in all.

De La Salle U, which ruled women’s badminton and women’s table tennis and placed second in men’s basketball, poomsae taekwondo, and men’s swimming, trailed the Thomasians with their 132-point output.

University of the Philippines offset its failure to rule an event in the first sem with four second place standings and five third places to run third with 131.

Ateneo complemented its wellfollowed triumph in men’s basketball with a sweep of men’s and women’s swimming and a co-championship with UST in men’s judo to grab fourth in the GC chase with 127.5.

Buoyed by a breakthrough title romp in men’s and women’s taekwondo, undefeated conquest in women’s basketball, and victories in men’s badminton, and men’s table tennis, National U took fifth position with 120.

University of the East, runner-up in women’s basketball and women’s judo, ranked sixth with 73 followed by Far Eastern with 68 and Adamson with 44.
