OUR CULTURE OF COMPASSION IS IN THE AIR

- GINA LOPEZ

There is something about Christmas that is directly connected to the heart — not the physical heart but this feeling of caring, of giving. Our culture of compassion is in the air. It manifests, it’s time to be with family — the consciousness is palpable. We see people with more compassion, which results in wanting to give more. Why can’t this consciousness exist the whole year round? In fact, my stand is it is this culture, this consciousness is the foundation of economic growth, of peace, of healing. It is in fact this culture of caring that is at the base of caring for the environment because one third of Filipinos depend on the environment. And when that goes, quality of life goes. Let’s go deeper into the flavor of this consciousness. What I feel is a warmth, a forgiving, a letting go, a wisdom. It is such a beautiful space. Then what I do notice is because this space is so beautiful, it leads to a connection of hearts, which then creates a bigger web of caring that envelops us all. This must be what heaven is like. People that go on into the light, in the books I have read, don’t want to go back to earth because it is so beautiful there. And almost unanimously what they talk about is love. It is just that there is “unfinished business” on earth which leads to their return.

I have often asked why do we have to die to go to heaven? Why can’t we bring a piece of heaven here on earth? I feel Christmas, beyond the commercialism, goes deep into caring, a wanting to be good — letting go does just that. So within this ambience of Christmas, I wish everyone a deepening of consciousness which inevitably results in healing, a profound joy. Make the opportunity to step back , look at life and then let go.

Life is not easy and it’s not perfect People aren’t perfect. We are not perfect. It is what it is, but we navigate, head held high, chin up, heart full — always open, always sincere, and actually the effort to be above board regardless builds muscle. That’s why the difficulties are there. So, go forward. Feel the love, give the love, and let the love hold you close. Life is beautiful!
