Zero Basura Olympics features Cemex in best practices book

-

The story of Cemex Philippines’ waste management program was cited in the recently launched Zero Basura

Olympics (ZBO) for Business book. Titled “Building a Sustainable Earth,” the feature on Cemex’s sustainability program detailed how the cement manufacturer is integrating environmental responsibility in its operations.

Cemex was lauded for its idea of addressing the challenge of trash by treating certain plastics from sur- rounding communities and plant premises with the technology for proper waste disposal. A co-processing method of Cemex completely destroys segregated plastic wastes in the kiln of the cement plant. This initiative has significantly helped lower the percentage of residual waste disposed of in landfills and has promoted proper waste segregation in accordance with environmental regulations.

The book also features Cemex’s milestones in energy management. Its subsidiaries, Solid Cement Corporation and Apo Cement Cor- poration, are the first cement plants in the Philippines to pass the ISO 50001:2011 Energy Management System audits.

Cemex Philippines offers a broad product mix of building solutions to the Philippine market. Its subsidiaries produce and market the well-established cement brands Apo and Rizal.
