PSE recognized as best stock market in SE Asia
The Philippine Stock Exchange Inc. (PSE), the operator of the local bourse, has been recognized as the best stock market in Southeast Asia for the fourth time.
It was named anew as the Best Stock Exchange in Southeast Asia by Alpha Southeast Asia, an institutional investment magazine for its efforts to facilitate investments in its internal system that continuously translate to better and much improved operations.
“The Philippine Stock Exchange stands apart given its continuing investments in its internal systems to facilitate the upside potential the country now represents after years in the shadows of its neighbors,” Alpha Southeast Asia said in its citation.
Specifically, the Marquee Awards cited the technology developments, product launches, investment literacy initiatives of the PSE. It also noted the upbeat prospects for PSE this year.
PSE president and chief executive officer Ramon Monzon welcomed the recognition and committed to continue working toward the goal of making the PSE a world-class platform.
“Our accomplishments in 2017 would not have been possible without the hard work of the PSE team and the support of our regulators and various stakeholders. We will continue to do our best to fulfil our vision of becoming a worldclass exchange,” Monzon said.
Alpha Southeast Asia said the PSE has huge potential for growth this year given the country’s economic fundamentals.
“The upside for PSE remains high as it has the strongest potential for growth in 2018 given the solid economic fundamentals of the country as the global economic outlook improves and investors return to what is increasingly known as the safest haven in Asia with improving investments prospects for foreign and institutional investors,” Alpha Southeast Asia said.
The local stock market opened the new year on a strong note, with the benchmark index closing at record highs during the first three trading days of 2018.
The award will be conferred during the Marquee Awards of the Alpha Southeast Asia Deal Awards on Feb. 13 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
