‘Legacy: Homage to the Masters’at Art Anton
Art Anton presents “Legacy: Homage to the Masters,” a celebration of various masterpieces from the Louvre Museum in Paris as individually interpreted by Filipino artists.
Participating artists are: Gerry Joquico Jr., Cezar Arro, Lei Manto, Edwin Ladrillo, Toti Cerda, Richard de la Cruz, Paulo Tria, Mel Cabriana, Ricky Ambagan, CJ Tanedo, Alvin Cayco, Otto Neri, Clint Normandia, Alvin Paraguison, Aubrey Fajardo, Abe Orobia, and Mark Nativo.
The favored contemporary word to describe artistic homages is “channeling.” The process is a deliberate expansion of consciousness, an opening up of another sensibility in order to create an emotional connection with the honoree, leading to a harmonious unfolding and compatible merging of disparate talents. The supreme exemplar of channeling is no less than Picasso himself, the greatest master of twentieth century art, who created numerous versions of “Las Meninas,” a masterpiece by his compatriot, the seventeenth century Spanish artist Diego Velasquez.
Among the honorees in this show are Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Johannes Vermeer, Jacob Jordaens, Marie Guillemine Benoist, Francois Boucher, and Jean Baptiste Regnault, among others.
“Legacy: Homage to the Masters” runs until Jan. 25.
