Baguio’s chill continues to dip

BAGUIO CITY – This city’s weather continues to get colder, hitting a low of 11.4 degrees Celsius yesterday morning.

The temperature began to dip on Friday when thermometers registered 14 degrees before sliding down to 12.8 degrees on Saturday morning.

The northeast monsoon brings cold breeze over the Northern and Central Luzon provinces, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

While tourists enjoyed the cold mountain breeze, residents dug into their closets for warm clothing. Some gathered wood and built bonfires in their backyards.

Business is brisk for vendors of bonnets and sweaters as well as at the used clothing or ukay-ukay stores along Harrison Road.

On Dec. 16, Baguio registered a low of 11.5 degrees.

The city’s lowest temperature was recorded on Jan. 16, 1963 when it dropped to 6.3 degrees.

Baguio’s chill usually starts in November and ends in February.

Meanwhile, weather forecasters expect the temperature to plunge in the coming days as the northeast monsoon reaches its peak this month until February.

Samuel Duran of PAGASA said no low-pressure area or tropical cyclone is expected to affect the country in the next three days.
