GMA tops 2017 nationwide TV ratings
GMA Network, Inc. cemented its status as the No. 1 broadcast network in the country after successfully concluding 2017 with remarkable nationwide television ratings performance based on Nielsen TV Audience Measurement’s full-year data.
Throughout January to December 2017 (with Dec. 24 to 31 based on overnight data), GMA registered an average of 42.5 percent total day people audience share in the National Urban Television Audience Measurement (NUTAM).
GMA was able to widen its margin over competition in 2017 to an impressive 5.7 NUTAM people share points from its 0.2-share point lead in full year 2016. Moreover, GMA grabbed the total primetime lead in average in 2017, expanding its leadership across all day parts.
The network likewise topped competition for the entire 2017 in all time blocks in both Urban Luzon and Mega Manila, which respectively account for 76 and 59 percent of all urban viewers in the country.
GMA posted winning numbers in Urban Luzon as it tallied 48.8 percent beating its rival network’s 31 percent by higher margins.
In Mega Manila (with official data from Jan. 1 to Dec. 23), GMA registered a bigger lead with 51.9 percent.
The network also garnered 44.3 percent versus the competitor’s 37.2 percent in December. The
Kapuso network further capped off a successful year by gaining a higher advantage of 7.1 points in its December share lead alone.
Similarly, Urban Luzon continued to be GMA’s stronghold with the network garnering 49.5 percent in December.
Mega Manila (with official data from Dec. 1 to 23) also remains as GMA’s bailiwick with 52.7 percent versus competition’s 27.2 percent, posting bigger audience shares and lead margins year-on-year in all day parts.
Overall, the network dominated NUTAM’s list of top programs for 2017 with 20 out of 30 programs coming from GMA. Reigning supreme in the list is the well-loved
Kapuso primetime series Encantadia, which became the No. 1 program for two consecutive years.
Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho grabbed the second spot as the mostwatched program for the year followed by the Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza-starrer Destined To Be Yours. Joining them in the list were Pepito Manaloto, Magpakailanman, 24 Oras, Super Ma’am, Mulawin vs Ravena, Alyas Robin Hood, Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko and All-Star Videoke.
Also included were My Love From the Star, Kambal Karibal, Meant To Be, Kapuso Movie Night, 24 Oras Weekend, Someone To Watch Over Me, Hay Bahay!, Ika-6 Na Utos and Tsuperhero. GMA’s exclusive free TV telecast of Manny Pacquiao’s last fight, dubbed the Battle of Brisbane: Pacquiao vs Horn, was the most watched TV special for the year.
Meanwhile, the network kick starts the new year with an exciting line-up of programs set to launch within the first quarter of 2018. First off is the romanticcomedy series The One That Got
Away, which features Lovi Poe, Max Collins and Rhian Ramos, who are attracted to the character of Dennis Trillo. Returning to the small screen are Gabbi Garcia and Ruru Madrid in Sherlock Jr.; Glaiza de Castro in Contessa; and Megan Young and Katrina Halili in The
Stepdaughters. Viewers should also watch out for GMA’s first advocaserye, starring Yasmien Kurdi as a mother/wife diagnosed as HIV-positive in Hindi Ko Kayang Iwan Ka.
Lastly, a new world of magic and mystery comes to Philippine TV as GMA Public Affairs launches the adventure-filled fantasy series Sirkus, featuring Mikee Quintos, Mikoy Morales, Gardo Versoza, Andre Paras, Sef Cadayona, Chariz Solomon, Klea Pineda and Cherie Gil.
