MRT-3 records 9 glitches in a week
The operations of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) were disrupted nine times since Jan. 13.
The rail reported an electrical problem at the GMA-Kamuning station on Jan. 14 and three problems the next day: electrical failure at the GMA-Kamuning station, signaling system at the Boni station and another electrical failure at the GMA-Kamuning station.
The MRT-3 also reported another signaling system problem at the Santolan-Annapolis station on Jan. 18, another signaling system error on Jan. 19 at the Ortigas station and another one between the North Avenue and Quezon Avenue stations.
The MRT-3 said that the signaling system problem encountered between the North Avenue and Quezon Avenue stations caused a four-minute service interruption.
Yesterday, the rail line reported an electrical problem in a northbound train at its Boni station at around 2:18 p.m. It attributed the electrical failure of the train’s motor to worn-out sub-components.
The affected train which unloaded around 450 commuters, was pulled out for preventive maintenance and replacement of the sub-components.
Around two hours later, a southbound train’s doors failed to work properly at the Quezon Avenue station at around 4:14 p.m.
The MRT-3 asked commuters to refrain from leaning on the train doors or forcing them open.
More than 200 commuters were offloaded from the affected train, which was pulled out for repairs.
