China wants highly skilled foreign talents

- By MAYEN JAYMALIN

World-renowned Filipino talents and other so-called “high-end tourists” are now needed in China, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said.

POEA chief Bernard Olalia posted an advisory saying China is now implementing a new visa program for foreign talents, including Filipinos.

Under the new program, high-end special talents such as international entrepreneurs, scientists and artists who have performed in world famous opera houses or concert halls will be given a China Talents visa.

“Foreign high-end talents are urgently needed in the economic and social development of China,” Olalia said, citing a report from the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

Olalia said the “China R Visa” allows multiple entry that is valid from five to 10 years.

China R Visa holder can stay in China for 180 days for each entry, Olalia said.

He said the application for China’s R Visa can be accomplished online for free.

“Applicants will be assessed based on grading and classification and those who will qualify will be given confirmation letter within days upon submission of the online application form,” Olalia said.

Olalia said the certification allows the qualified applicants as well as members of their families to apply for R Visa at Chinese embassies or consulates in their home countries.

Meanwhile, Olalia clarified that returning workers to Kuwait are exempted from the suspension of the issuance of overseas employment certificate.

In a memorandum circular, Olalia said only new hires bound for Kuwait are covered by the suspension imposed last Jan. 19.
