Jubilee, Saint Jude sustain charge in PCYAA caging

Jubilee Christian whipped Uno High School, 79-57, to notch its fourth straight win and stay in joint lead with Saint Jude Catholic School in the PCYAA basketball tournament yesterday.

Kyle Barraza fired 23 points while Carlo Lim grabbed six rebounds and made five steals and three assists to go with his six-point output.

Saint Jude outscored Philippine Cultural College, 235, in a furious fourth quarter run for an 89-76 victory to likewise stretch its win run to four.

The Judenites actually battled back from 66-71 down behind a blistering 13-0 run capped by two triples and eight points from Mallechi Colby Lim. They held sway in the fourth period of a rugged contest marred by the ejection of two players (one from each side) and Seagulls head coach Lester del Rosario while two players from Saint Jude were called for unsportsma­nlike fouls.

Lim finished with 28 points and eight rebounds while Matthew Ang (13) and Lance Chan (12) led the Judenites.

Cultural fell into a three-way tie at third with Saint Stephen’s High School and Pace Academy at 3-2.

In other results, defending champion MGC New Life Christian Academy topped winless Grace Christian College, 66-50, for a 2-3 card while league newcomer Saint Stephen’s HS defeated Pace Academy, 6859, to tie its victim at No. 3 at 3-2. records.

In the 18-under Girls Juniors Division, Jubilee Christian Academy, this year’s host school, chalked up its sixth straight win with a 72-18 rout of Grace Christian Academy.
