‘Creative intuitions’ at galerie rober to
Galerie Roberto celebrates the instinct for design and composition in the all-abstract exhibition on view until Feb. 21 aptly titled “Creative Intuitions.”
Participating artists are Red Mansueto, Raul Isidro, Rodolfo Samonte, Ritche Yee, Valen Valero, Arley Carig, Joseph Laureano, Allain Hablo, Demi Padua, and Beatrix Syjuco.
A larger panorama partaking of an historical canvas encompasses the works of these Filipino artists working in the 21st century. But it seemed not too long ago, if viewed from the reverse side of the telescope, when Filipino abstractionists such as Jose Joya, representing the hot and frenzied energy of Abstract Expression, and Lee Aguinaldo, exemplifying the glacially cool and mysteriously meditative facet of non-representation, now both lamentably gone, did explore the limits of reality beyond the perceptible realm.
But the artists represented in this current show are no longer under the tutelage of Joya or Aguinaldo. All had gone through their own personal rite of passage, assimilating, digesting and synthesizing varied influences, each creating his/her own vocabulary of forms, painterly or linear, planar or textural, until at last, by sheer instinct, and through intuition, arriving at a destination that is either their comfort zone … or point of departure.
