Capitals finish off Imus five to share lead

Quezon City and Muntinlupa trounced their respective rivals to notch their second straight victory in the MPBL Anta-Rajah Cup at the JCSGO Gym in Quezon City late Tuesday.

The Royal Manila-backed Capitals dominated their rivals on their way to an 84-75 victory over the Imus Bandera-GLC Truck and Equipment before roaring home fans.

The Cagers of Muntinlupa, supported by Angelis Resort, also ripped the Caloocan Supremos Longrich side, 89-76, in the tournament organized by Sen. Manny Pacquiao with former PBA MVP Kenneth Duremdes as commission­er.

The Capitals leaned on exLa Salle stalwart PJ Barua in the early going to seize control at 29-17, then went to big man Jessie Collado in the second half to finish off their Cavite rivals for a 2-0 card and a share of the early lead with the Navotas and Batangas City sides.

Collado finished with 17 points and eight rebounds while Barua added 15 markers.

The Capitals led by as many as 24 points, 75-51, on a Jeymark Mallari split halfway through the fourth period.

The Capitals also lorded it over the boards, hauling down a total of 60 rebounds, 14 more than the GLC Truck and Equipmentb­acked Bandera team. Quezon City’s bench also produced 58 points against Imus’ 38.

Jomar Santos and Joco Tayongtong added 10 apiece for QC, which joined Novaliches and Batangas City in the lead.
