After McDo TVC, Gabby set for movie with Sharon?

- RICARDO F. LO

Starting yesterday, McDonald’s has been airing the new TVC starring Gabby Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta in a barely one minute story calculated to titillate the ‘80s loveteam’s fans who, up to now, are waiting with bated breath for their idols to get back together on the big screen. They were last seen together in the 1992 romancedrama Tayong Dalawa directed by Laurice Guillen (now directing Gabby in the hit GMA soap Ika-6 Na Utos).

Prior to their McDo team-up, Gabby and Sharon have been exchanging “sweet nothings” on social media such as Dear Heart and P.S. I Love You which are the titles of their 1981 starrers when they were younger (and didn’t know any better?). In one post, Gabby in his photo holding a flower captioned, “When the end approaches, so does the beginning.” Sharon replied, “You naughty! Crazy hahaha. No se que.”

Apparently, the uncouple has mellowed and time has healed whatever wounds there were. It’s understandable because what must have been a challenging 2017, confessing that she and husband, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan, “…almost lost each other.” Happily, Sharon’s career bounced back with Unexpectedly Yours, her Star Cinema reteam-up with Robin Padilla that set the tills ringing merrily for Sharon again. Gabby himself is enjoying renewed popularity with younger leading ladies (Sunshine Dizon and Ryza Cenon in Ika-6 Na Utos).

One of the favorite topics last year was the abortive reteam-up of Gabby and Sharon that spawned all sorts of speculations — that Gabby was asking for the same talent fee (P10 million?) as Sharon’s, that Gabby was tied up with other projects, so on and so forth. Then came the McDo offer. Now, the big question is: Are we going to (finally, finally!!!) see Gabby and Sharon back together on the big screen?

As usual, Sharon “cannot be reached” so Funfare instead called Gabby (who answers calls or texts promptly, thank you!).

“Even before I came back to the Philippines in 2008,” said Gabby, “okey na okey ako to do anything with Sharon, LOL.” Reminded that the long-awaited/longdelayed project could be pushed through now that he’s free by next month when

Ika-6 Na Utos is about to end, and so is Sharon, wouldn’t there be any hitches about the TF (Talent Fee) and the billing?

“Hahaha,” laughed Gabby. “I am not the reason why the movie has not been done yet. I will even do it for FREE!”

Caution, dear Gabby-Sharon fans: Hold your hurrah. Rejoice only when the movie is in the can and ready for showing.

(Incidentally, according to Funfare sources, before the two-hour shoot for the McDo TVC, Gabby and Sharon felt “somewhat awkward” toward each other but soon warmed up and got cozy as if they rode on a Time Machine back to the early ‘80s when they did

Dear Heart, their first movie together.) Single (but hasn’t been ready to mingle) for years, Sen. Loren Legarda intrigued her dozen well-wishers at Gloria Maris (Greenhills) the other day when she admitted that she has an “admirer” without naming him but giving only one clue: he’s European.

Co-hosted by Regal Matriarch Lily Monteverde and daughter Roselle, the occasion was the group’s annual get-together for Loren’s belated birthday dinner (she turned 58 last Jan. 28; a Pig according to the Chinese Calendar) and advance blowout for the Chinese New Year (of the Earth Dog) which begins on Feb. 16. Valentine’s is just around the corner so the casual chat was about love.

“I will reveal his identity at the right time,” said Loren who dazzles with her eternal youthfulness on the cover of the

PeopleAsia’s latest issue. “The heart never wanes, it never goes even as you grow older. It only takes the right person to rekindle it. But as you age, it becomes harder and harder to find Mr. Right. It’s very hard to find all the qualities you want in just one man — dapat matalino, mabait, mabuting tao,

confident so he wouldn’t womanize to prove himself. He doesn’t have to look like a model, just someone who will adore you, someone you can talk to, someone with a deep pocket who can provide for you.”

Loren gets precious pointers from the book Act Like a Lady, Think

Like a Man by Steve Harvey (the lovable Miss U host, remember?).

Meanwhile, Loren is faced not with choosing Mr. Right but deciding what option to take. Her third and last term as senator will end next year (by then, she shall have been 21 years in the Senate) — stay as co-chair of the Climate Change Commission, run for congresswoman in Antique (where her maternal grandfather served as governor) or accept a cabinet position as DSWD head.

There’s another alternative: get married with her “European admirer” and simply enjoy life.

“Hmmmm,” smiled Loren, “magandang alternative.” And then she laughed and laughed.
