Ethan Allen celebrates 85 years of style & craftsmanship
Luxury is more than the high-thread counts and gilded pieces you have at home; it’s a state of mind that starts with the appreciation of craftsmanship.
For 85 years, Ethan Allen has continued to champion craftsmanship in every frame and attention to detail reflected in its handcrafted furniture pieces. Each piece holds value that withstand the test of time with an outstanding 85 years of history, patronage and jobs well done.
Quality craftsmanship is not a lost art at Ethan Allen. Proud of its long-standing American manufacturing history, it still owns and operates the very first manufacturing plant in Beecher Falls purchased in 1936 and continues to fabricate its wooden furniture in North Carolina.
Each piece starts from the careful choice of the best materials available to the details that adorn each item. Call it traditional, but Ethan Allen believes in the value of these time-honored techniques, while at the same time embracing modern techniques. Each piece is still made by hand, one piece at a time. Before any piece is painted, it is repeatedly sanded, lacquered, dried and buffed until consistency is guaranteed.
More than a retailer, Ethan Allen believes in the philosophy of “livable luxury.” It’s not just about great design — comfort and practicality go with it. Livable luxury also means that each style is personal to each client. With Ethan Allen Custom Order Program, clients will get their designed style with hundreds of fabrics, dozens of leathers and myriad of trims and finishes — endless options that cater to every style. Its design centers always come with a complimentary design service from a professional interior designer.
THE BRAND THAT CARES FOR THE ENVIRONMENT
Initiatives were placed and manufacturing processes were revamped in the daily operations of the plant to reduce carbon footprint, greenhouse emissions and landfill waste. Its manufacturing facilities use sawdust to power the boilers of the plant and its steam to heat the wood-drying kiln. To date, Ethan Allen plants have reduced its carbon footprint by 25 percent which is equivalent to around nine million pounds of carbon dioxide. They were able to also reduce 2.1 million kilowatt hours of electricity and reduced fossil fuels to almost none. It also uses safer packaging such as eliminating the use of hydrochlorofluorocarbons or HCFC in all of its packaging components and more sensible fabrics and foams without compromising the superior quality and finish.
