The deputy chief of the police in Cainta, Rizal was killed in a shootout with the alleged leader of a drug ring on Sunday.

Senior Inspector Jimmy Senosin, 41, died while being treated at the Pasig General Hospital.

Senosin and his men responded to reports that a certain Ruben, with a gun tucked in his waist, was roaming in Barangay San Andres at about 7 p.m., reports reaching the office of Cainta police chief Superintendent Raynold Rosero showed.

Ruben reportedly lobbed a grenade at the police officers and engaged them in a running gunbattle. When the suspect was cornered in an alley, the police officers tried to negotiate for his surrender, but he continued to fire at them. Ruben escaped when Senosin fell to the ground.

A bystander, Rayland Jamon, 22, was hit by a stray bullet and brought to a hospital for treatment.

Police officers chased one of Ruben’s alleged cohorts who entered a house with a blue gate where Ronaldo Idolog, 44, and Jophine Lachica, 29, were caught while allegedly repacking shabu.

A grenade, drug paraphernalia and two sachets of shabu were among those recovered at the scene, police said.

Ruben is the alleged leader of the so-called Highway Boys engaged in illegal drugs and robbery in Cainta and nearby areas.

Philippine National Police chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa ordered a manhunt for the suspects even as he assured the family of Senosin that justice would be served.

Dela Rosa said police operatives should be more cautious during operations, especially against drug suspects.

In Bulacan, Bryan Manalo reportedly shot it out with anti-drug operatives in a sting in Barangay Igulot, Bocaue before midnight on Saturday.

A sachet of shabu, marked money and a caliber .45 caliber pistol were recovered from the fatality, police said.
