Parañaque-Carson, California sisterhood inked
Parañaque City recently sealed a sisterhood agreement with Carson City in California, USA to foster understanding, unity and goodwill between the citizenry of the two cities held at the International Sculpture Garden in Carson.
For their sister city relationship to take effect, Carson City Mayor Albert Robles invited Parañaque officials led by Mayor Edwin Olivarez to sign a partnership agreement in California last month.
Olivarez’s wife, Janet, Parañaque Councilor Marvin Santos and Carson City Councilor Elito Santarina witnessed the simple ceremony.
“It’s great for us to exchange heritage, culture, traditions, and practices that we could apply in our city to be more progressive and developed like Carson City,” according to Olivarez.
For his part, Robles said: “I am absolutely ecstatic that our cities are forming this partnership.”
The agreement also states that the two cities will maintain an open line of communication and both parties shall appoint focal persons who would promote the programs and initiatives relative to the sisterhood agreement.
The ceremony also came in time for Carson’s 50th cityhood anniversary and Parañaque’s 20th cityhood anniversary today.
In September 2015, Olivarez and Mayor Baek Sun Ki of Haeundae District in eastern Busan, South Korea signed a sisterhood agreement at the Parañaque City Hall.
Under the agreement, the two cities shall pursue and expand cooperation on various areas such as economy, culture, sports, tourism, education and other fields “in pursuit of the best interests for both parties.”
Olivarez said the agreement between Parañaque and Busan will work both ways and will pave the way for a greater and broader cooperation not only between the two cities but hopefully for the two countries as well.
In addition, there will also be constant exchanges of invitations during the celebrations of special holidays and festivals to further enhance the cultural ties between the two cities.
