Art Fair fun continues at Glorietta’s
IT’S that time of the year again when young creatives and art aficionados troop to Ayala Center in Makati to marvel at different masterpieces in this year’s Art Fair Philippines. Dubbed as “the largest and most successful event for contemporary art in the country,” the Art Fair from March 1 to 4 will gather some of the most popular local and foreign contemporary visual artists at The Link.
It will definitely take you the whole day strolling around the art exhibition and appreciating various artworks on display. When you go hungry or want to make tambay with the
barkada or family somewhere after — just simply walk to Glorietta where you can dine, shop, chill, have fun, and even find additional artworks!
A NEW CHILL TAMBAYAN
Top of the Glo, Glorietta’s new hangout space located at the roof-deck of Glorietta 1, puts popular and new retail and dining concepts and an abundance of green and open space into one place where young people and families can gather, dine, play, relax, unwind, have conversations, even conduct gatherings and events.
There are three access points going to Top of the Glo: (1) via the escalator from the Glorietta Activity Center; (2) via the escalator from Glorietta Cinemas; and (3) via Holiday Inn Makati. Much of the roofdeck is near completion with several restaurants already in operation.
One of them is KPub BBQ, which is the No. 1 Korean buffet in the country three years running. A Korean pub and a barbecue place all rolled into one, it has a great combination of delicious authentic Korean food and fun K-Pop entertainment. It also offers different kinds of buffets — there’s the Eat and Run, the Eat and Run Level Up, and the No Limits.
Your family or barkada can enjoy these dining spreads while listening to nightly live entertainment or watching lively K-Pop music videos on large LED TV screens. Sing along to hits from BTS, EXO, BIGBANG, SHINee, Girls’ Generation, and Super Junior, among others in between mouthfuls of japchae, pizza, sundubujjigae, or Melona ice cream. For folks who want Filipino fare in their dining experience, head over to Moonshine Kitchen. Founded by five friends who formed their bond over memorable inuman sessions, Moonshine Kitchen is the perfect spot for coworkers, friends and families to while away Friday or Saturday nights over some signature cocktails, or a bottle of beer
or two. Aside from their range of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, they also have a diverse menu of pub chows and tasty mains — from pica-pica favorites to unique Filipino creations like smoked kinilaw,
beef sinigang, lamb shank caldereta and crispy humba. Aside from these dining establishments, other stores that will open at Top of the Glo include Filipino-Mexican restaurant Tacoman by Silantro, Japanese restaurant Ichi Hachi, and popular American buffalo chicken wings store Wing Zone. For fitness and health buffs, Top of the Glo can also become their newest workout station with the planned opening of Among the first restaurants to open at Top of the Glo is KPub BBQ, which combines the best of Korean cuisine and K-Pop under one roof. You can enjoy authentic Korean barbecue with the
barkada or family while singing along to the latest hits from your favorite K-Pop groups.
EXPERIENCE THE BEST OF JAPAN
Top of the Glo’s ongoing Phase II development shall showcase a Japan town concept featuring a diverse showcase of Japanese food, fashion, culture and events. Designed to look and feel like Tokyo’s busy Shibuya Crossing, it will feature a wide array of specialty restaurants ranging from
yakiniku, ramen, yakitori and tendon shops. It is also set to combine popular and global Japanese brands as well as artisanal and bespoke concepts, some of which are opening for the first time in the Philippines.
Another concept to be introduced is Cool Japan, which will feature boutiques and shops dedicated to everything about Japan such as anime, manga, tokusatsu, Japanese fashion and cosmetics, among others. For the entertainment section, Japanese company teamLab Inc. will open an entertainment center that will house MNL48, the local version of Japanese all-female J-Pop group AKB48. There will be interactive exhibitions, a music-and-lights show, and a daytime active play concept for children as well for friends and families to enjoy.
INTRODUCING: GLORIETTA’S GLOKADA
Wall art has also found its way in Glorietta. Just several floors below the Top of the Glo, young creatives and art aficionados can find the wall murals featuring Glokada, an art campaign that provides a peek into different types of Glorietta shoppers. Designed to make shopping and dining around Glorietta a fun and artful experience, the wall murals were created by Philippinebased illustrator Winnie Wong (a.k.a. Penelope Pop). Glokada (short for Glorietta
barkada) includes seven characters: Gary (the dad), Anita (the mom), Luna (the kid), Ava (the teenager), Maggie (the tita), Amelia (the millennial) and Olivia (the wanderer). Not only can you find these wall murals Instagram-worthy spots, you may also catch them online in photos posing with Glorietta shoppers and staff.
