Cargo Movers, Blaze Spikers collide in key Superliga duel

-

Games today (Filoil Flying V Center) 4 p.m. – Foton vs Cocolife 6 p.m. – F2 Logistics vs Petron

F2 Logistics tries to re-assert its mastery while Petron seeks a payback as they collide in what promises to be a slam-bang duel in the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan today.

Gametime is set at 6 p.m. with the Cargo Movers and Blaze Spikers aiming to remain unbeaten in the early going of the tournament sponsored by Isuzu and UCPB Gen with ESPN5 as official broadcast partner.

Resurgent Cocolife, meanwhile, guns for its third straight victory after dropping its first two as it clashes with Foton, toting a 1-1 card, at 4 p.m.

After blasting Sta. Lucia Realty and Cignal, Petron dominated newcomer Smart, 25-12, 25-14, 25-17, late Thursday to chalk up their third victory.

But F2 Logistics is ready to halt the Blaze Spikers charge with the Cargo Movers to lean on the MVP Maria Jose Perez of Venezuela and Kennedy Bryan of US.

F2 Logistics, which edged Petron in the finals last year, also recruited a Japanese libero in Minami Yoshioka while adding six-footer Lourdes Clemente, Ara Galang and Michelle Morente into the mix.

“Although I have seen them only once this year, I think they remain strong because their core is still intact,” said Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos, who is expected to bank on imports Hillary Hurley and Lindsay Stalzer as well as local stars Frances Molina, Mika Reyes and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas.

“Even if they lost their main libero (Dawn Macandili), they replaced her with a Japanese. So, it’s still the same. We still have to prepare and go hard against this team in a very important match.”
