HD Spikers seek to sustain surge against Realtors

-

Games today (Filoil Flying V Center) 4:15 p.m. – Smart vs F2 Logistics 7 p.m. – Cignal vs Sta. Lucia Realty

Cignal and F2 Logistics set out against struggling rivals today, confident of nailing victories that would keep them within striking distance of unbeaten Petron in the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix today at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The HD Spikers have bucked the loss of a couple of key players, including former MVP Jovelyn Gonzaga, sweeping the Cocolife Asset Managers then escaping with a fiveset win over the Foton Tornadoes to seize second at 2-1.

Though it stands three-and-a-half games behind powerhouse Petron (5-0), Cignal tries to close the game with a win in their 7 p.m. duel with Sta. Lucia Realty, which totes a 1-2 card.

Import Jeane Horton delivered 28 points while Serbian teammate Sonja Milanovic dished out a season-high 35 markers in the HD Spikers’ thriller of a win over Foton, 25-22, 25-23, 26-28, 20-25, 15-11, at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex last week.

“This is a tough tourney and every win counts,” said Cignal coach Edgar Barroga, who also boasts of local aces Rachel Anne Daquis, star libero Jheck Dionela and wing hitter Cherry Vivas as they face the Lady Realtors in a top matchup in the tournament backed by Isuzu, Rebisco and UCPB Gen. with ESPN5 as broadcast partner.

F2 Logistics, meanwhile, seeks to improve to 2-1 as it tangles with winless Smart at 4:15 p.m.
