Match tonight (Rizal Memorial Stadium) 7:30 p.m. – Global Cebu FC vs Yangon United

Embattled Global Cebu FC seeks to break through and breathe life into its AFC Cup bid as it hosts streaking Yangon United tonight at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

With only a draw to show against two losses in Group G, the Cebu booters are hard-pressed to get the results in their remaining group assignments beginning in the 7:30 p.m. home duel with table toppers Yangon Lions (nine points in three games) in order to stay in the hunt for the next round.

“We can’t afford to drop points anymore if we want to progress,” said Global coach Marjo Allado, whose wards need to either top Group G or be the best runner-up in the Asean zone to advance. “We’re in a difficult situation right now but we just keep on going, we have to stay positive in our last three games.”

Global misses the suspended Marco Casambre, who was sent off in its 0-3 loss to Yangon last week in Myanmar, but welcomes back veteran Paul Mulders and Paolo Salenga into the fold.

Skipper Patrick Deyto said the team is motivated to prove themselves after such lousy start.

“We haven’t won yet and that itself is motivation to the players,” said Deyto.

“I can see the spirit, the intensity during training and they want to win, the team is very hungry to get the three points,” said Allado.

Global hopes to also capitalize on the suspension of Sekou Sylla, brace-scorer in their away fixture in Yangon, and Thein Zaw in gunning for the upset win.
