Animo interschool triathlon slated at Vermosa Sports

-

Two perfectly golden runs at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) later, the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) is still hard at work in its campaign to build up the country’s bench for the prestigious sport it represents.

The 2018 NSA of the Year, along with the De La Salle Zobel Tri Team and Vermosa Sports Hub, will be holding the first Animo Interschool Triathlon on April 15 at the Vermosa Sports Hub in Imus, Cavite starting 6 a.m.

The event will be the first triathlon ever in Ayala Land’s premier fitness complex as well as TRAP’s first interschool competition designed to help scout young triathletes.

Youth participants aged 11-12 years old will race in the 250m swimming, bike 8 kilometers and run 2 meters. Kids aged 13-14 engage in the 500-meter swim, 15K bike and 3K run while those aged 15 to 17 will engage in the same distance.

With the sport’s record growth in popularity, TRAP believes it is time for schools with swim teams to embrace triathlon.

“The potential is out there, we’ve proven that,” TRAP secretary general Tom Carrasco said. “Could your son or daughter be a future Olympic triathlete? Or one of your varsity swimmers or tracksters? We want to share our excitement in that possibility.”

Registration is ongoing with an entry fee set at P3,150 for all age-groups. Only 150 slots are available and registration will last until March 31. The race is for the benefit of the De La Salle Zobel Sports Development Foundation.
