Buhay@30 – staying strong with voices from the heart

-

Thirty years and still going strong, the Maria Lena Buhay Memorial Foundation Inc., the first oral school for hearing impaired children in the Philippines, celebrates yet another important milestone, affirming their commitment to the education of young hearing-impaired children in the Philippines through oralism.

Capping their 30th year of providing quality education to children with special needs specifically the hearing-impaired, the school will be holding a simple 30th recognition and graduation ceremony on March 23 at the Blue Ridge B Barangay Hall in Blue Ridge B Subdivision, Quezon City.

The closing rites follows a successful fundraising event on Dec. 16, 2017 celebrating Buhay@30 entitled, “A Merry Musical Christmas Morning” where the MLBMFI scholarship assistance program was relaunched.

Deviating from the traditional house-to-house Christmas caroling, the school held a musical program that filled the beautifully decorated multipurpose hall with sounds of music performed by the students directed by music and auditory training teacher Norman Lopez.

Students caroled for the audience playing various instruments which they learned to use during their daily music classes.

The school boasts of a good music program which was given a boost after a very supportive grandparent, Lucila Purugganan, made a donation to purchase much needed musical instruments. Equally supportive are the parents, guardians, school officials, faculty and staff as well as family and friends.

In its 30-year history, music and auditory training have complemented the speechbased English language program. Both programs have played an important role in the development of speech of hearing impaired students.

By helping hearing impaired children find their voices from the heart, the Maria Lena Buhay Memorial Foundation, has gone another extra mile for its numerous scholars.

The closing rites is open to all individuals who would like to see the students perform and hear them play their instruments.
