It’s been four years since Uber was introduced in Manila, and to celebrate, they are giving back to the community for the next four weeks. Uber has teamed up with HOPE in a Bottle by donating to help rebuild public school classrooms in Marawi to give students a safe learning environment. They have also partnered with Philippine Red Cross by supporting blood drives and dispatching cars to collect donations during times of calamity throughout the year. Now those of us who’ve been asking where we can donate clothes and food can just call an Uber for that. According to Uber Philippines head of communications Cat Avelino, Uber will be sending out messages via the app or through email to notify its users when clothing drives are ongoing.

For its driver-partners, Uber is putting together Driver Forward features to make driving with Uber easier. There is the Momentum program, where drivers get major discounts on fuel and automobile expenses. The company is also increasing driver support with ex- tended phone support hours and friendlier ratings.

Uber is also introducing Rider Indentification, which verifies cash-only rider signups by asking for a Facebook account. This assures drivers that their riders have verified accounts. This month, Uber will also be holding its first Safety Day for driver-partners. Created in partnership with Petron, drivers get free vehicle inspections and a Defensive Driver seminar.

Uber also constantly works together with the government to help drivers and riders. Through Uber Movement, they aim to provide the Department of Public Works and Highways with data derived from daily Uber trips to help them in urban planning. Another major announcement: Uber is coming to Pampanga, which is a booming city, giving drivers more opportunities for livelihood and riders more choices to get around their city.

Finally, Smart/Sun/TNT subscribers can now book Uber rides without incurring data charges. Just download the freenetPH app on your phone to book without consuming data.
