W Visayas dominates athletics in Nat’l PRISAA

Western Visayas dominated athletics with four golds and three silvers and prevailed in sepak takraw and men’s beach volleyball while Zamboanga flexed its muscles in weightlift­ing in Day 2 of the National PRISAA Games yesterday in Tagbilaran, Bohol.

Jose Belebestre ruled the men’s long jump men (7.06 meters), Michael Manaay topped the men’s 110m hurdles (14.47 seconds), Rhabea Delotayo took the 100m hurdles secondary girls (16:56.00 seconds) gold, and Kim Villaruz won the 3000m (14:47.91 seconds) run in convincing fashions. The WV bets also drew two silvers from Marjorie Basea and Kayla Marie Almalbis as they made up for their mediocre showing in weightlift­ing and in men’ volleyball, which lost to Region IX, 15-25, 20-25.

Carlo Soriano spearheade­d Zamboanga’s medal assault in weightlift­ing with one gold in clean and jerk (121kg) and silver in snatch (95kg.) in men’s senior division in the 57.5 kg. division while Patricia Gregorio got the gold in 45kg. snatch and 55kg. clean for a total of 100kg. lift in the 47.3 women’s senior category.

Rowel Garcia secured the gold (100kg. snatch) and 125kg. clean and jerk (225kg) in the 55 kg. men’s senior category.

Arnold Dumania and Nelgred Colonia came away with two silvers each while Aldazher Indanan copped three bronzes for Zamboanga.

Central Visayas, gunning its sixth consecutiv­e senior plum, won two weightlift­ing golds courtesy of Edrian Perez in the 55.7 kgs (80kgs. snatch) and 95kgs. (clean and jerk) for a total of 175 kgs. in the 55.7kgs. while brother Kid Perez (65 kg. snatch and 87kg. clean and jerk) topped the 60 kg youth division with total of 152 kgs.

WV, the current youth champion with 94-43-23 (gold-silver-bronze) haul last year, upended senior division champion Central Visayas in athletics, which failed to win a single gold after Melody Perez ruled the 3000m women division in Day 1.

Basea settled for silver in the 3000m in 14:51.00 while Melanie Paderanga of Region X clocked 15:47.88. Almalbis placed second to teammate Delotayo in the 100m hurdles in 16:66.00, edging Michaela Margarejo of Cagayan Valley, who timed 17:12.00.
