Maintain good oral health, top Filipino surgeon urges public
A top Filipino oral and maxillofacial surgeon in the Asia Pacific region has long been stressing the importance of oral health which touches every aspect of people’s lives but is often neglected.
Dr. Fernando Fernandez, general chairman of the Asia Pacific Dental Congress 2018 in Manila and president-elect of Asia Pacific Dental Federation/Asia Pacific Regional Organization (APDF/APRO), said that “since the mouth is a window into the health of one’s body, it can manifest signs of general infection or nutritional deficiencies and systemic diseases that affect the whole body.” This may first become evident by way of development of mouth lesions or other oral problems, according to Fernandez.
Oral health is vital in all age brackets, Fernandez pointed out as he singled out cavities as the most prevalent chronic disease of childhood. He lamented the fact that most Filipinos fail to see a dentist each year even though regular dental examinations and good oral hygiene can prevent most dental diseases. Regular dental visits can contribute to a lifetime of good oral health. If you are experiencing dental pain, don’t put off seeing a dentist. “With dentistry’s many technological advances and innovations, diagnosis and treatment are more sodiatric phisticated and comfortable than ever,” noted Fernandez who runs the Dental Lounge, a state-of-the art dental clinic at Centuria Medical Center, Century City in Makati which performs dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, orthodontic treatment, management of pe- patients, prosthodontics (crowns and bridges), oral surgery (wisdom tooth removal, tooth extraction), teeth whitening, root canal treatment, periodontics (scaling and root planning, crown lengthening, gingivoplasty) and orthognatic surgery.
With Fernandez on the team are Drs. Ferlinda Jacinto and Leiza Fernandez, both of whom have decades of experience in the practice of general dentistry, orthodontics and esthetic dentistry.
